Well folks, your intrepid reporter is once again ready to report on the most important soccer tournament in the Americas prior to the World Cup in 2018 in Russia, the America Cup Soccer Tournament, being played in the good ole US of A.
The USA has a lot to prove after getting to the quarter finals in Brazil two years ago. Germany beat Brazil badly in that World Cup, and Brazil is always dangerous and will be this year in this tournament. The Chileans won it a year ago. The Argentinians are always dangerous and feature Leonel Messi, whom many consider to be the best player in the world. And there’s the Colombians, against whom the USA plays this Frian
The Brazilians, of whom it is said that their second or third team could beat most everyone’s first team, has to be a favorite. However, unfortunately, one of the best Brazilian players in the world, Neymar Jr., who plays for Barcelona with Messi, will not play in the America Cup because he had to choose between this tournament or the Olympics, and due to the Olympics being played in Rio, chose the Olympics over the America Cup.
The USA has won pre-tournament matches against Ecuador and Bolivia recently, but has unsettled positions all over the field, especially on defense. We also have a phenom 17 year old named Pulisic, who plays first division for Dortmond in the German Bundesliga soccer league, and scored against Bolivia. A new American soccer star? We sure could use one.
I will be in Pasadena on Saturday for the game of Brazil vs Ecuador.
The USA opens against Colombia this Friday. Make sure and watch! I’ll give you the facts and my opinion. Ole!
