On April 5, 2019, at approximately 11:46 a.m., the San Diego Police Communications Center received a 911 call from a resident of the 4100 block of Ashford Street. The caller said he was at work, but had been in phone contact with his father, who was inside the residence. His father told him there had been some type of theft or robbery at the home. The son called the police and began driving home. When the son arrived at the home, he found his father inside suffering from apparent trauma to his upper body. San Diego Police Officers arrived a short time later and discovered the man was not breathing. The officers began CPR, until being relieved by San Diego Fire-Rescue Personnel. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he remains in Intensive Care.
Due to the nature of the incident and the victim’s condition, the San Diego Police Homicide Unit was called to the scene and will be handling the investigation. The investigation is in the initial stages and not much is known at this time, as the victim was alone in the home and has never regained consciousness. The investigation has determined a safe was missing from the home. There is no suspect information at this time.
The victim remained on life-support for several days, but tragically passed away as a result of the incident the evening of April 8, 2019. The victim has been identified as 58 year-old Randy Taing.

The victim was the owner of Rose Donuts on Linda Vista Rd. A Go Fund Page has been set up to assist the family.
