New and Improved Bike and Pedestrian Path
Beginning Tuesday, December 3rd, the Rose Canyon Bike Path will close for approximately four days as crews pave the final section of the path and remove the temporary ramp installed near Gilman Drive.
Construction to realign the Rose Canyon Bike Path began in 2018 to allow space for new Trolley tracks as part of the Mid-Coast Trolley project.
During construction, a temporary bike path was made available while crews constructed a new and improved path. A major portion of the newly constructed bike path opened to the public on July 3. Tuesday’s closure will allow crews to complete the remainder of the path.
During the closure, Mid-Coast Trolley crews will provide a “bus bridge,” to shuttle people biking and walking around the construction zone. The bus bridge will be available from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day, and signage will designate the pick-up locations. People biking and walking should plan for extra travel time and expect some delays as shuttles travel between pick-up and drop-off locations.

The Mid-Coast Trolley project will extend UC San Diego Blue Line Trolley service from Downtown San Diego to the University community, serving major activity centers such as Mission Bay, the VA Medical Center, UC San Diego, and University Towne Centre. Nine new stations will be constructed. Major construction work began in 2016, with service anticipated to begin in late 2021.
