Globally inspired gastropub highlights a world of street cuisine plus local craft beers

Today is the grand opening of Red Card Café, a new gastropub in Bay Park, at 4140 Morena Boulevard, 92117, in the Bay Ho section of Clairemont.   Offering a modern interior design, indoor-outdoor seating and a menu built around the rising popularity of international street foods, Red Card Café is the first restaurant by Paris-born proprietor Caroline Sternberg.

Making creative use of an industrial space that once served as a catering kitchen, Red Card Café will offer raised, air-duct accented ceilings and refinished white walls ornamented with oversized mirrors and historic, sienna-toned prints of early 20th century European football. Entering the main dining room, guests can opt for plush booths, café-style and high-top tables, and a concrete finished bar complemented by a fire engine red tap pouring fourteen local craft beers. A semi-private room at the front of the main dining room will offer a more intimate space for smaller gatherings and overflow seating, while through a rustic, sliding barn door guests will discover a large back room featuring a communal king’s table crafted from reclaimed barn wood. In sharp contrast to this, a side area of Red Card Café’s back dining room has been transformed into a casual lounge area complete with white sofas and black leather chairs under modern, starburst-esque chandeliers.
