City of San Diego Invites Residents to “Tidy Up” at Community Cleanup, Donation and Recycling Event
The “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” television series has helped motivate people from around the world to reevaluate their possessions and reduce clutter in their homes. This Saturday, the City of San Diego is providing residents the opportunity to dispose of unwanted items free of charge that no longer “spark joy” in their homes, garages and storage units.
The City is hosting a community cleanup event on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at SDCCU Stadium. City residents can drop off unwanted appliances, furniture, electronics/TVs and other bulky items as well as smaller recyclable materials including batteries and light bulbs. Goodwill Industries of San Diego County will be in attendance to accept any items residents wish to donate. Urban Corps of San Diego will also be collecting used mattresses on behalf of the Mattress Recycling Council.
The event is part of the City’s Clean SD initiative to reduce illegal dumping in neighborhoods. To date, Clean SD staff has removed more than 3,000 tons of trash, litter and debris from streets, alleyways and open spaces, including the San Diego River.
