This past weekend the Balboa Ave off ramp from I-5 heading North was closed all weekend.  The anticipated opening of the off ramp is Monday June 17th at 5 am.

According to a SANDAG press release:

The closure is necessary for Mid-Coast Trolley crews to continue street improvements associated with the Balboa Avenue Trolley station. Crews will widen the I-5 off-ramp from one to two lanes and install a permanent traffic signal at the intersection of the off-ramp and Balboa Avenue. Following the weekend closure, the off-ramp will re-open and the traffic signal will go into operation.

During the closure, lane restrictions will be in place on Balboa Avenue and Garnet Avenue, between Mission Bay Drive and Moraga Avenue to allow for one lane of travel in each direction. Traffic controls and detour signs will be in place to alert motorists in advance.

We took a little ride on Sunday morning (June 16th) to check on the progress.

See photos and captions for a general idea of the changes.
