Overnight Closure of Genesee Avenue

PR: From 9 p.m. on Thursday, to 5 a.m. on Friday, eastbound and westbound Genesee Avenue will be closed from just east of Genesee Avenue Bridge over Interstate 5 (I-5) to the Scripps Memorial Hospital main entrance. Additionally, the I-5 northbound on-ramp from Genesee Avenue and I-5 northbound off-ramp to Genesee Avenue will be closed. These closures are required for crews to safely remove and replace a light pole in this section of Genesee Avenue. Hospital access for emergency vehicles will be maintained. Motorists will be detoured to La Jolla Village Drive to access Genesee Avenue.

During this timeframe there will also be reduced lanes on northbound and southbound I-5 so crews can replace crash cushions in the median.

Construction schedules are subject to change. Your patience is appreciated as Caltrans crews work to improve the interchange.

Travelers may access real-time traffic info through any of these resources:  511SD, Caltrans QuickMap, WAZE, Google Maps, or Shift San Diego. The $105 million project will replace the existing six-lane Genesee Avenue overpass with a ten-lane structure that will include additional vehicle lanes, new bike lanes and sidewalks, and better accommodate current and future traffic demands in the San Diego region. The I-5/Genesee Avenue Interchange Project is expected to be completed
