Clairemont Mesa West Neighborhood Homicide

PR On Monday, July 24, 2017, at 7:16 p.m., the San Diego Police Department Communications Center received a 911 call from a male at 4368 Mt Putnam Avenue who said he had been injured in an assault involving a knife.  The first San Diego Police Officers to arrive found the male who called 911 standing on the driveway of the house.  That male was detained by arriving officers.  The officers entered the house to check the welfare and safety of other possible victims.  Once inside, officers found an unconscious female on the floor suffering from stab wounds to her upper body.   The woman was transported to a trauma center where she was pronounced deceased by the attending physician as the result of her wounds.  No other people were in the house.

The male who originally called police was also transported to a trauma center to be treated for non-life threatening wounds.  He will be booked into County Jail for murder when he is released from care.

The decedent has been identified as 58 year old Angela Burks of San Diego.  The suspect has been identified as her 30 year old son, Joseph Burks, also of San Diego.
