Construction crews will close northbound Interstate 805 (I-805) from La Jolla Village Drive/ Miramar Road to Interstate 5 (I-5) Monday through Thursday, March 14 – 17, nightly from 9:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. The closures are necessary for crews to build median barriers.
Detour signs will be posted directing motorists traveling north on I-805 to westbound State Route 52 (SR 52) to northbound I-5. Local traffic will be permitted to exit I-805 at Governor Drive and Nobel Drive.
Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions. In the event of rain, the closures may be rescheduled.
Stage 1 of the I-805 North Express Lanes Project is constructing one carpool lane in each direction in the median of I-805 from SR 52 to Mira Mesa Boulevard. The project includes construction of a south-facing Direct Access Ramp at Carroll Canyon Road. Additional improvements include bridge widening and ramp modifications.
Improvements to I-805 will help accommodate the projected population and employment growth in the region by connecting employment and activity centers including offices, shopping centers, recreational facilities, communities, and schools. The construction cost for Stage 1 is about $86 million and is funded with state, federal and local sources, including the Proposition 1B State – Local Partnership Program and TransNet Extension funds.
