Special Olympics provides year round sports training and competition in 32 sports.
Year round training transforms the lives of athletes as they become physically fit, show courage and determination, make friends and experience joy.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics began in 1981 when Wichita Kansas Police Chief Richard LaMunyon had a small group of officers run with the Torch to raise money.
The first run raised a few hundred dollars. Thirty-four years later, the LETR has collectively raised over 500 million to benefit local Special Olympic programs.
Law enforcement officers throughout the world volunteer their time and energy to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympic athletes.
