From the Publisher,
First off, let me start with Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, here’s hoping 2016 will bring joy and good health to all, may 2016 be the best year yet!
I am not one for looking back, but rather looking forward. However, 2015 was a great year. I met many new people in the neighborhoods, forged more lifelong friendships through this little paper and the newspaper continues to grow. I have said it time and time again many people have a part in the publishing of The Clairemont Times each month. Thank you to all who participate, contribute, read and advertise in the paper without the help of many this paper would not be possible.
Every month I email all of the librarians at the three local branches: Ann at Balboa, Karina now at Clairemont and Eileen at North Clairemont asking what events we can promote at their branches in the paper (see page 6). If you have not been to any our local libraries lately, check them out, guaranteed you will learn something. I was sad to hear one of the three has now since moved on, Eileen at the North Clairemont Branch has now left the San Diego system and moved to a beautiful branch near the ocean. Best of luck Eileen! As for her new yet to be named replacement welcome to Clairemont. Karina and Ann, thank you for all you do, you are tremendous assets to the community.
On another note, I want to congratulate my good pal Bill Swank he of the monthly column “Squaremont”. When he inquired over a year ago about the possibility of writing for the paper I had no idea what was in store. Well, recently Swanky was awarded an Excellence in Journalism Award from the San Diego Press Club for a piece he wrote in this paper “Clairemont, 1954”. His piece was awarded in the Non-Daily newspaper: History category. Thank you Bill, you are a good man, a good friend and a hard worker.
The Holidays are upon us and I have a couple shopping tips one Shop Local! Throughout this paper there are many hard working small business owners who depend upon you the reader to stop at their store or restaurant or to call their business for service. Tell them you found them in the CT!
If you are looking for a unique gift to show off your Clairemont pride, Chris Bonner of CLMT ROOTS Apparel informed me the Clairemont Surf Shop at 6393 Balboa is stocked with his logoed t shirts, sweatshirts, hats & stickers for the holidays.
Some of What is In This Edition
There is some great information in this edition. The Chowhound (p12) shared a family recipe that will be on our holiday table this year for sure. If you are into Christmas Lights there is a story (p8) with a long history in the Clairemont neighborhood. For all you Linda Vistans there is a community event on (p15) and also one of Linda Vista’s longtime ambassadors was recently recognized (p10).
The above just scratches the surface enjoy the pages ahead. If there is anything you would like to see in the paper as we enter 2016 or you want to be a part of the team or you are a business owner who wants to advertise contact me (858) 752-9779 or chris@ClairemontTimes.com
