Suspicious Packages Found Downtown Pose No Danger Via SDPD

pr On 10/24/2018 at about 8:12am, a San Diego Police Lieutenant was flagged at the
corner of 6th Avenue and B Street regarding suspicious packages.

He located five US Mail boxes stacked on top of each other and a bike pump on a table on the side of the Wework Building, at 600 B Street. The boxes were closed and had miscellanies writing on them.

The Wework’s Building houses the San Diego Fire Department Headquarters, an office for Senator Kamila Harris, The Union Tribune and other various government offices.

Due to the threats and devices being found today on the east coast, the area was evacuated so the contents of the boxes could be examined. SDFD Bomb Squad and MAST responded to the scene. The bomb squad was able to x-ray the boxes. The boxes contained miscellanies items such as a shoe, a football, books, etc.

None of the boxes were taped shut and none were addressed to anyone so there was no specific or implied threat.

Video surveillance showed an unknown person placing the boxes at that location at about 1:45am. The immediate area is frequented by transients at night.

Agents from the FBI and ATF also responded and concurred there was no crime and no threats from the incident.
