San Diego Police Investigate Officer Involved Shooting in Bay Park Neighborhood

PR:

On Friday November 17, 2017, at 7:35 a.m., the San Diego Police Department Communications Center received a call for help at 2863 Arnott Street. The 80 year old victim stated his 47 year old son Kenny Bui had battered him on Tuesday, November 14th and he was told to call police if Bui returned to the house. He said Bui had returned and he wanted police to come and get him.

The victim also called for police assistance on Thursday, November 16th because Bui had returned to the house. When officers arrived, Bui was gone. However while searching for him, officers saw what appeared to be a long barreled gun in a locked container as well as live and spent rifle ammunition on the ground in the garage. The victim called back today because Bui had again returned to the house. An officer responding to today’s call also responded to look for Bui on Thursday. He notified responding officers over the radio about the possibility of a shotgun being in the garage.

When officers arrived, they began to search for Bui. An officer saw Bui walk out of the detached garage. When Bui was ordered to stop, he failed to comply and instead ran from the yard and into the yard of the next door neighbor. Officers could see Bui and quickly began to form a perimeter around the house in an attempt to contain his movement.

As officers were giving commands to Bui, they saw he was holding what appeared to be a rifle. They also saw a knife in the waist of Bui’s pants. Bui turned towards one of the officers, crouched down and pointed the rifle at the officer. The officer fired two rounds from his handgun at Bui. Bui laid flat on the ground and crawled out of the officer’s view. He then ran into the thick brush behind the homes and attempted to conceal himself as officers ran after him.

Officers began giving commands to Bui to come out of the bushes. Bui did not comply. After giving several failed commands to surrender, a Canine Unit Officer released his canine to apprehend Bui. Bui was then taken into custody. Officers recovered a replica firearm and a fixed blade knife.

Paramedics arrived and rendered first aid prior to transporting Bui to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during his arrest. After treatment, it was determined that Bui had received a grazing bullet wound to the top of his head. That wound is not life threatening.

Bui was booked in to county jail for the battery committed against his elderly father and threatening a peace officer with a deadly weapon.

The involved officer has been identified as David Sisto, a 7 year veteran of the Police Department.
