MTS Free Ride Day

More than 330,000 transit trips are taken in San Diego on an average weekday and that number is expected to spike on Free Ride Day (Tuesday, Oct. 2). To greet the influx of passengers, rider appreciation events will be taking place at transit centers throughout the region.  Riders will be given freebies and chances to win raffle prizes to celebrate Free Ride Day.

San Diego employers, business associations and residents across the region are pledging to ride transit on October 2. The region’s two transit systems are planning for a big day!

Free rides will be offered on all buses, Trolleys, the COASTER and SPRINTER all day long.

Bird – the last mile electric scooter sharing company – will be passing out free helmets to transit riders at the Old Town Transit Center and offering free rides (up to $5) with promo-code “SDMTS” who either have the Bird app installed on their phone, or download on site.

Lyft/Uber – Two top rideshare companies in San Diego will offer discounted rides to and from transit stops on Free Ride Day. Participants can use promo code RIDESHARESD18 and get a $5 discount.
